Ria Hulsman

Ria Hulsman will contribute her insights on our session “Food Security and Sustainable Consumer Goods".

Hulsman has a degree on agronomy with a specialisation on rural development. She has worked with indigenous communities in the Northern Amazon region of Bolivia as an expert on sustainable agriculture and as an advisor for women empowerment. She has also worked in the Netherlands as a coordinator of the International and the Organic Agriculture Program of the Dutch Agricultural Youth Organisation.

In 2002 Hulsman united both her experiences in Bolivia and the Netherlands with her work at Hivos, a humanistic development organization. She established an office in La Paz, Bolivia, and led the Office for External Relations in the headquarters in The Hague.

 

Since 2013, Hulsman works at the Wageningen University & Research as director Latin America and the Caribbean. Wageningen University & Research conducts fundamental and applied research on food security, natural resources, health, lifestyle and livelihood in among others Latin America. The University occupies a prominent position in international rankings in the disciplines of agriculture, environment/ecology and food technology.
